Football is certainly one of the biggest sports worldwide. One reason for this is probably this: it is the game that anyone can play, without any major fuss, in almost any place. This ensures a long shelf life. Nevertheless, the question is what does the spectator himself think of “really big football”? Professional football is meant.
In fact, according to the view generally held here, the spectator is never asked about it. One of the reasons for this: the football is so big that it is not necessary. The size itself speaks for it. So why check? The spectator has already spoken. Otherwise it wouldn’t be so big, would it?
Another would be this: one would have a little too many voices. One would prefer this, another that, a third such. That would be far too complicated. “Let them do it. It’ll work out.” Or maybe not.
The audience is the most valuable asset. They should be asked. At least an opinion poll?! Could that hurt? Wouldn’t everyone love to take part, finally be able to put in their two cents and at the same time be sure that someone is listening to it/watching it and critically examining it? Here, every participant is offered this chance. There may be quite a lot of questions, but in return as many areas as possible are covered. The purpose would be to perhaps shake things up somewhere as the number of participants grows? No, one does not agree with the way things are done in the professional business. It may be that one is still involved, but it may also be that one does it only reluctantly or even grudgingly, perhaps only out of old tradition and attachment? Wasn’t there once a Fritz Walter and an Uwe Seeler?
