1) Bankruptcies
Many players I have met over the years, including a number of good players, i.e. players with an advantage, I have seen go bankrupt. This often has a specific reason: there is a phase in their career where they are lucky. They wouldn’t need the luck, because even without luck they would have an advantage, i.e. they would win. But luck turns towards you and away again. It is difficult to control. Now what happens is this: In the good run, the world is open to you. You buy the better bottle of wine, you only eat filetto, but at the good Italian restaurant, you get rid of the old car, buy a new one, the couch set, the flat screen TV and even change your flat, 75 square metres are no longer enough, I need 120 square metres, and that in the centre. And the holiday, of course you deserve something special. Well, as you can see: you live beyond your means. That’s the problem with fluctuating incomes. You think that if you earn a lot, things will continue like this or even get better. Then come a few worse, just normal months, weeks. It can turn into a year, luck has turned away. And even if, after a longer period of time, you get what you are entitled to, and still have won in total, but only 40000 euros instead of the 60000 euros you need, then at some point the money runs out. Almost everyone lacks the assessment of how much they are entitled to. The 20000 are missing from the budget. The expenses have exceeded the income. The money is used up.
